Starting Tecfidera soon

Hi all. First post, diagnosed January 2021 with RRMS. Hoping to start Tecfidera soon.... if my neurologist actually completes my insurance forms correctly. I’ve read that I should have monitoring bloodwork while on Tecfidera but my neuro has not ordered any. Wondering what others experience has been and at what intervals you had bloodwork, if you had any. Also any tips/ tricks for reducing side effects would be great 😊

@Lisa74 Hi and welcome to the club. Under your post above you'll see a box labelled Tecfidera click on that and it'll take you to other posts made about it. As for blood tests here in the UK it's every 3 months to check your lymphocyte levels. I'm sure others will give you a few helpful tips. Just make sure you take it with food when you start

Hi @Lisa74, I've been on Tec for four years, doing great. Some people do get gastric issues initially (I never did). You need to take it mid-meal, ideally a mix of fat and protein which helps with the gastric issues. If you're out and about, always keep a spare, or at work so they're always on hand. And yes, before you start you definitely should have your lymphocyte level checked, repeated every three-six months, sometimes with a urine check. Good luck!
