Why do some people not think before they speak?

We had a team meeting earlier where we discussed workload. Everyone chatted about what we have been up to and what we have coming up. I mentioned I'd seen an increase in workload this week (not complaining, I prefer to be busy). A woman I work with turned to me and said "now you know how we felt when you were off for two months". I'm sorry, those 8 weeks that I was off sick for involved a massive relapse, 3 trips to hospital and too many neurology appointments to count. It was that massive body failure that lead to my MS diagnosis (that she knows all about). It wasn't 2 months sat on a beach in the sun (which was the tone it was said in). Why can't people be a little more compassionate to others?! Rant over... sorry!

People are selfish. She has probably diagnosed you herself and concluded that you are lazy. Seen it and have have it done to myself too many times. Focus on those who you care about and at work, remember, they are colleagues not family. I might sound harsh, I worked in a close team but when I finished, due to my health, they all dumped me.

Thanks @sprout. I'm sat here trying to convince myself that it was just a joke in very poor taste. I have some amazing colleagues, just one or two that don't think before speaking. As you say, the focus needs to be on family and friends who I care about and who care about me. I just really couldn't believe my ears and felt like here was q safe space to rant. Haha x
