Accessible car

Hi all, just after some ideas about how people cope with getting in & out of cars & driving. I’ve PPMS & struggle to bend my left leg. I know my MS is progressive but at the moment I have a medical driving license & I’m still driving an unadapted car. I have an automatic Ford grand cmax which at the moment I’m ok getting in & out but other cars I do struggle, especially as a passenger. I’ll be looking at changing my car at some point, does anyone have any tips/ recommendations? I love high cars after always driving 7 seaters until getting this car 6 years ago which is still 7 seats (2 fold down in the boot). I also really struggle bending in when a car door aperture depth is shallow & can’t get my head in without knocking it or hurting my neck getting in. This car is lower off the ground, granted those were the days before MS…

Hello. I’ve got pp too. Just changed to an auto focus. What a relief. I was having to use my left arm to put my left leg on and off the clutch!! Frightening. Someone got me a door bar that goes in the latch side, your right getting out. It helps quite a bit. It’s a Simply car handle aid. About £13 in Halfords. Sell them all over. I keep a walking stick down my door side to help too but walk with crutches kept in the back. Well tooled up 😂

@CollettePage if you claim pip and tell them all these problems you might qualify for motability and then you will be able to get a car adapted to your needs
