Tecfidera and Anti-inflammatories

Hoping to get some clarification on whether or not we can take anti-inflammatories/ibuprofen while taking Tecfidera. The info leaflet basically only said, there may be an increased chance of side effects on the kidneys when taking both of these drugs. I have an incredibly painful injury that requires anti-inflammatories/pain control, so I take ibuprofen. My doctor has no idea, so he is not helpful. Any ideas? Can I take Ibuprofen long term or should I be searching for other forms of pain control? It's so confusing considering all the other medications that have interactions. Thanks for the help!

@betty , yes, there is a warning about Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), like Ibuprofen that "there may be an increased chance of side effects on the kidneys". It's really a question for your Neuro, or even the MS Society. As long as you're having regular blood tests which keep an eye on this, you should be OK.

@betty I've been on Tecfidera for 14 mths, you have blood tests every 3 months so anything untoward will show up so that's one thing you don't need to worry about. If you feel it's right for you go for it.😜
