Newly diagnosed (ish)

Hi all, my husband is diagnosed 18 months at this stage so we are still getting our heads around it all. He has had four MRIs since and there have been a few new lesions so we are looking at new medication now.. is this to be expected? If anyone can offer their insight I would appreciate it as I am struggling a bit to remain positive

@annied1988 , from the profile, I see that your husband in not on any Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT). As there are new lesions, this suggests that his MS is progressing, so adopting a DMT would seem reasonable as they do reduce the frequency and severity of future relapses.

You can find more information about these treatments by selecting the “Treatments” tag here :-

Hi I’ve been dealing with ms since 2008 just getting on a medication that has stopped new lesions. Yes your husband will have to work with his doctors be totally honest and together eventually you guys will get some stability long process I’ll pray for you guys stay strong.

annied1988 it was all confusing and very worrying when MS is first talked about, it is the not knowing that gets people and I suppose most nip on to Google and look at the worst case scenarios every-time.
Your Husband has not been prescribed a drug and feel sure that will be the next stage and I suggest you ask the consultant or if your lucky enough to have on, your MS nurse. is my blog, read from the beginning, I am not a wizard on computers but a salesman that ended up running a business, the reason for saying that is simple, I remain upbeat and try to get things sorted I spend little time surfing the net as I talk to people, this is why this site is so good, you have the perfect mix, the internet users, the knowledgeable ones and then those like me.
Good luck, do not worry as all will be well

Thanks everyone, I’ve made a mistake on the medication, he is on tecfidera since Jan 2018 with no side effects (but it obviously isn’t working either)

Finding it hard to not let the anger/bitterness take hold of me today to be honest but I think this group will drag me through!

Thanks everyone

@annied1988 , it all depends on when he had the last MRI. If it was after, say June 2018, as I think it must be, than there is a definite need to move to a stronger medication. Although, bear in mind, not all medication work for everybody, so it’s a case of finding one that works for your hubby.

It’s natural to be angry. This condition is so unfair, but it is what it is. It’s a condition that affects the whole family unit not only the owner of the MS.

Stay strong for each other.
