Amitriptyline

Evening everyone, Just looking for some experiences with Amitriptyline. Im currently 18 months post diagnosis RRMS and am probably 70 percent recovered from my last relapse 2 years ago. My nurse has recently suggested that I try amitriptyline and has requested my neurologist to prescribe it for me. Im not anti medication but have so far avoided any (apart from steroids early on) but i dont like taking things unless its absolutely necessary. Im getting shooting pain in my left leg/foot which is worse at night. Im also getting on and off pain from trigeminal neuralgia. Its not terrible (compared to child birth 😂) but bad enough to mention. Has anyone used this drug for a similar thing and did it help? Did the positives outweigh the negatives? Thanks in advance for any feedback

Hi @beky I’ve been on a low dose since I was diagnosed 5 years ago...it really agrees with me !! It takes a couple of weeks of dry mouth etc....plus don’t take it later than 7pm or I can feel groggy the next day. It completely took that horrible nerve pain away, and it helps me to sleep. If I’m drinking alcohol I know I will only get a couple of hours after taking it then I’m asleep....so any social drinking is done early rather than late !! I would definitely give it a try 😁
