MS & Yoga

Howdy folks, I'm just starting to do yoga, mainly for my general health but also to hopefully help against MS. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge on this, particularly any certain styles? (apparently Pranayama focuses on the nervous system), Thanks
@Stumbler

Well, I participate in a yoga class and have done for a year or so. I'm not sure which flavour of yoga it is and, to be honest, I'm not much good at it. But, it stretches muscles, which is needed to retain our function. And, it is a good social affair too.

Yoga will develop your core, i.e. the thick band of muscles round your middle. If your core is strong, your balance will be better and you will be less prone to falls. Plus, many of the yoga exercises will concentrate on the pelvic floor muscles: this (I am assured by the MS nurse) is excellent for reducing bladder problems. It's great, too, for relaxation. I did it for a few years but have switched to Pilates - the two have a lot in common. I find the Pilates slightly more targeted to muscle groups and I can do more of the exercises.... but it's horses for courses! You'll be doing yourself a lot of good. Hope you enjoy yourself!
