Bladder and bowel issues

Hi all, After a recent (just before Christmas) 6 days in hospital with uro-sepsis I have now found myself having to self catheterize due to urine retention! Following on from that I am now also finding it more and more difficult to naturally empty my bowels as I'm constantly feeling constipated! Does anyone know if this is likely to be linked to the bladder issue and if so, what is the best solution here? I'd rather not take any laxatives and I'll be on the loo every 2 minutes and going through the "eye of a needle" !!! (Apologies if this too graphic!) Hoping someone out there is able to advise. Thank you in advance for all who take the time to reply.
@Nute

I use Fybogel. When blocked up. Use a sachet a day in a glass of water. It is good for both constipation and diarrhoea. How is your water intake? Because i make sure i drink more now and this also helps. Also eating more veg helps. But the Fybogel will help get yourself more regular again. Took me a few weeks but it works.

@Nute Thanks for the reply. My water intake is not as good as it should be but I am working on that - it's mainly due to the bladder issues and not wanting to have to use a catheter at work (!!). I do eat fresh veg but again this could also be increased if I tried. I have heard of Fybogel - I think it's orange in flavour isn't it? How did you go about getting that? Is is prescribed by a GP or are you able to purchase it over the counter?
