BLUE BADGES
Hi all , as a regular user of my blue badge to get closer to shops, hospitals, doctorss etc as my mobilit y is bad i am really glad for my blue badge and the help it gives me every day.
it is getting harder to get parked in blue badge spaces, and i for one am very concerned at the latest proposal to give blue badges to people with autism and dementia etc whilst i accept these people are disabled , they arent generally mobility disabled , which is the real reason the blue badge was invented. if all these other groups are given blue badges it will be even harder to get a space.
@hank , whilst these people aren't "Physically" disabled, they and their carers are constrained by other issues. I keep hearing this being broadcast on BBC TV and radio. And, I take exception to them reporting it as giving access to "free" parking! It is not always free. Our local Council, as do our hospitals, now charge disabled vehicles. So, it is not FREE parking, it is accessible parking!
as you say stumbler it is not about free parking it is about accessable parking if i cannot park near enough my wife goes and i stay in the car ,most of these other groups are able to walk further distances and possibly think of it as a way to get free parking
