Constant pain

Hi, Pain here refers to nerve pain (not musculoskeletal). So, where numbness turns into sensation, or aching feelings deep inside a limb, or sharp, shooting pains For whatever reason I assumed other pwMS were in constant pain. I realise now this is not true. My right leg is constantly painful. Whether I'm walking, or sitting. It's been this way for years..along with severely tight muscles, ligaments and tendons. However recently, I have found it increasingly difficult to live with. Does anyone else have this type of pain, and how do you live with it? Is there any medication I can take for this? My neuro has she's not clear on where the pain is coming from. I've had extensive MRIs, x-rays and consultant appointments. Everything's find from a musculoskeletal perspective, yet it hurts like hell. It hurts most if I don't sleep well. I suspect I have nerve damage. But what can I do?

@username , it sounds like you're not getting much support from your medical team in this respect. Neurological pain, aka Dysaesthesia and Paraesthesia (https://www.mstrust.org.uk/a-z/altered-sensations) are a frustrating aspect of MS. Yes, there are medications available to make these symptoms more bearable. Gabapentin, pregabelen and Amitriptyline spring immediately to mind. As for muscle tightness, then a muscle relaxant might be needed. Baclofen fits the bill in this respect, but dosage is really important. You need to find the right dose to address the tightness, without going too far and causing "jelly legs" Do you have an MS Nurse, as they would be the best person to speak to about this?

I have the same pain on and off in my left leg. I will get sharp pains or aching as well as numbness and tightness worse when I am tired. The only thing I have found has helped is rest, massaging the leg and medicinal marijuana. I know a lot of people have tried prescriptions to help with nerve pain but I found no prescription ever truly helps other then it might take the edge off temporarily. I stick with what works for me but everyone is different. Good luck !!!
