If your spirometry showed restricted lung function, and you improved after steroids, I'm afraid it is COPD. You're the 'right' age (though you can get it from being a heavy smoker or being pre-disposed at any age.) If this is the case, this is good as there are inhalers and tablets that can help and make you more comfortable. MS generally doesn't cause breathing difficulties - though the MS hug can make you temporarily feel like you do. Or with advanced MS, your respiratory muscles lose strength and you find it harder to exert yourself leading to SOB.
SOB = shortness of breath.
