Intermitent fasting Keto diet

Has anyone else with MS been helped following a Keto diet? I've been following this for the past 8 months and finding it very helpful, but am aware that it contravenes so much MS advice about keeping to a low-fat diet. Are there any other people living with MS who have also tried this? I'd so love to know your thoughts/experience on this. Sending best wishes to everyone Jostra

Hello @jostra, I was on Keto about a year after diagnosis. It changed my life; easy weight loss and loads more energy. Maintained it for 18 months but have derailed over the last 6 months due to moving, bereavement, loss of routine etc. I am, desperate to commit to it again because I need that feel-good back again! So yes, it worked for me, no side effects, only positive. Having said that, was quite tricky eating out with others sometimes. Also, I would say that different diets work for different people, it’s a case of seeing what works as your personal best. Good luck!

Hi Vixen, Thanks so much for responding so quickly :) I'm the same on keto re energy and greater brain power and general wellbeing which I've loved. Weight loss has also been steady though that wasn't my prime reason for it, but that's been an extra bonus. The rare eating out I do I request extra olive oil but generally I've managed by saying 'no bread or potatoes 'and fish is always a good choice for me, but you do have to be careful where you go, thats for sure. My main qualm at the moment is I've been told my cholestrol levels are higher than they should be, plus I know its stepping aside from advice of the respected MS greats like George Jelinek, Judy Graham and Roy Swank who advocate no diary and low fats... Good luck with your journey if you decide to go back on the keto wagon!
