Widening doorways

Hi everyone, is there financial help towards work involved in widening doorways when that’s needed for wheelchair access? I’ve PPMS and starting to prepare for when I move my bedroom downstairs. Having a wetroom fitted & a new kitchen so thought while building work being done & house ‘up the wall’ should I just go for it and get internal doors widened all at the same time? Decisions decisions!!! 🤪😩🤪😩🤪

@colettepage , a bit of forward thinking is always useful. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Ensure that any work that is be specifically carried out because of your MS is zero-rated. The contractors should be aware of this procedure :-

Also, if it’s your own property, contact the local council to get your rates reduced to the next band down.

Dear @colettepage,

@dominics posted about this very subject on 19.05.19. I don’t know how you could get hold of that post (perhaps @stumbler might be able to help?). There a couple of useful links there(one of which @stumbler has mentioned today).

Best wishes,

Jon

I’m not sure I mentioned this. however, my very first port of call would be my local council. I am aware that they vary widely in ability and quality. I think @highlander may have experience of similar.

Fabulous, thanks everyone! @stumbler, do you mean council tax can be down banded? Colette
