Tecfidera

Hi,

I will run out of tecfidera on monday morning, as my new prescription hasn’t been sent through.
It will probably take a number of days to get some more.
Does anyone know how long it takes for tecfidera to get out of your system ?

Thanks

@ncm22 Hi, so i’m only going by my MS Nurse and this might not be accurate but i’ll hopefully be going on Ocrevus soon which means i’ll come off Tecfidera.

She said there will have to be around a 6 week gap to make sure its out of the system before new treatment can start.

Again not sure how accurate that is because I haven’t read any evidence just taking her say.

I’m sure others will know for sure.

Hi @ncm20, I’m not sure either, but I assumed it stays in the system for only 24 hours, given that it is taken daily? @ralee, may I ask why you’re swapping from Tec to Ocrevus?

@vixen personal choice really.

My first treatment was supposed to start as aggressive as possible as thats how I want to treat my disease.

But due to COVID i couldn’t start it, so i was put on Tecfidera to atleast start something.

I had an MS nurse appointment and they told me that they’ve started Ocrevus up again and they are going to discuss me going back on it.

I am going onto Ocrevus too soon, after Tecfidera. When I asked how long it took for tec to go, the nurse said 48hours

@ncm22 Hi. I have a similar story than yours. I wanted to hit MS hard but have to first start with Tec for some months. Hopefully, I was able to go for Orc one month ago.

I was told to take my last pill of tecfidera the night before the day of my first half infusion of ocrelizumab. The MS specialist told me tecfidera have a very short half-life (actually less than 24 hours since you have to get it twice a day).

To my mind, you should talk with your medical team. I don’t how active is your MS but that’s not great in general to be let without any treatment for 6 weeks.

Hi, I’ve *almost* been in this position too. To be honest, I’m not sure how long it stays in the system but I would check in with your MS nurse or doctors to confirm if a few days gap would be ok, otherwise they might be able to help in getting you a quick blood test if that’s what you need (delayed blood tests have been the reason for my almost Tecfidera delays) so you can get your medication.

@ncm22 , as this seems to be an inadvertent temporary break why not put out an appeal to any Tecfidera Shift members in your vicinity?

A temporary loan can sometimes be arranged with one of your “neighbours”???

Thanks everyone.
The hospital sorted out the medication so I didn’t have to miss any doses.
