Special diets!

Hello I’m still not diagnosed, but looking for ways to be healthier, I have been researching diets for MS, I have read the Swank diet, wich is low fat, then I have read the Whals protocol wich is height fat, low carb, I’m confused as to what one to try, beings they are total opposite of each other. What do you guys think of this and what have you seen results with??? Thank you 😊

@jennimt1 Welcome to the diet conundrum. The first step for the newly diagnosed. I have tried them both and in terms of results it is hard to say if either help or not. What does help is DMTs. I am not on either anymore. I was on the OMS diet which is a "lifestle" of vegan + fish diet, exercise, Vit D and meditation based on Swanks research. Outcome - No new lesions. I then switched to the Wahls diet and was on that until my next MRI (approx 6 months). Outcome - No new lesions. I then went back to eating a healthish diet with meat and carbs until my next MRI (approx 6 months). Outcome - No new lesions. The one constant thing among the variables was Gilenya. Which I believe to be the difference. For what it is worth my Neuro gave a conference talk about diets and MS and his conclusion is that if you want to select a diet to follow, the Swank diet has the most evidence based research. His suggestion to me is to just eat a healthy diet but believes diets give people with MS a sense of control, which is not a bad thing.

@jennlmt1 , as suggested above, diets are a case of "horses for courses". There's details of the OMS diet, mentioned above, here :- https://overcomingms.org/ What may help is to maintain a food diary. Then, if you feel like you have taken a dip, you can go back and try and locate the offending foodstuff.
