I think it only really affects my fatigue, and only if it’s a particularly painful one, and I think that’s about the pain rather than the period itself.

Hi Cedelle, i sometimes notice i get symptoms or worsening of symptoms when my period starts, so i don’t think it’s unusual!

Hi, both times I’ve had really big relapses have been either few days before or after my monthly isnduento start. I asked my Neuro and he said there is no link but I’ve read that there are studies being conducted.
My theory is that because your monthly slightly raises your core temp is why symptoms flare up…. But that’s my theory and I’m not that regular so it could be just a thought xxx

Hi, I have just been diagnosed and one thing I noticed which sent me to the doctor was that I found I had wet myself a bit whilst I was on my period so I am sure there is a link. Being a nurse and midwife I have studied the mentrual cycle in great depth and the effect of the build up of progesterone causes everything to relax, including muscles, blood vessels (hence the increase in body temp), let alone the mood swings and craving for chocolate, and fluid retention!! Aren’t we lucky!!

Hey! yea i notice i do feel worse. I had optic neuritis in may which i am still in remission from, and i notice my sight gets worse just before…as was mentioned earlier because my core temperature is higher im sure thats why! xx

I have to agree that I feel worse ‘that time of the month’ I never used to suffer standard period feelings so was thankful but since my dx I have noticed I feel so much worse and really suffer the standard womens feelings that time of the month and my MS seems worse and my periods are heaver than the ever have been 🙁

ahh but its more drugs ophelia and I have enough anyway with my DMD & pain killers and i inject B12 too.
No need for contraceptive either as hubby has had the snip 🙂

Its hormonal and it stops your body going through the cycle and therefore body temp change every month hence making you feel rubbish. Its been my contraception for 7 years now so way before the MS reared its ugly head. Have no idea how i’d feel having to cope with that on top of everything else…well until I have it removed to get pregnant!!

Yeh, I can’t have anymore children but I’m all for getting rid of period pains every month, god I suffer really bad cramps, I have to dose up on nurofen plus or voltarol and paracetamol every month as nothing else will touch it. I presume you don’t bloat up every month either, bonus!
