Foot Orthosis

Hello
I a wondering if anyone uses a foot orthosis, in particular the “Safo” I have just tried these out and thinking of having two made, they seem very benificial, expensive but then all disability equipment and helpful aids are, ITS EXPENSIVE BEING DISABLED !!!

Hello Loulou,
I want you to promise that you will talk this through with your MS nurse. There are allsorts of aids out there that should be free for you! What is right for you maybe not as good for someone else!Feel free to PM me.

Hi LouLou,

Jane is spot on in that you should talk to your MS nurse first. I have FES for one leg/foot and a ‘foot up’ for the other, both of which were free after being refered by my MS nurse.

Take care
Mark

Thankyou Mark and Jane, I too use a FES (the Walkaide) on one leg but I am getting damn footdrop on the other now which is worrying and dangerous, I thought I may use the SAFO on the other or even have two, last week My phisio has referred me for an appointment with the NHS orthotic dept so before I spend lots of money I will try out what they have to offer I think, apparently there should soon be a FES for the hip to help lift the leg also, there is electrical stimulation to work the muscles but the hip device should help pick up the leg also. I can put up with all the symptoms that MS throws at us but footdrop along with the off-balanceness is the worse!!!
