ESA savings limit

Hello. As we all know the ESA limit is £16.000. Beyond this you are not entitled to this benefit. What amount of savings can you have before the DWP reduces the monthly amount you get? I think it is £6000. Any savings above £6000 need to be declared to DWP. Am I correct? Can anybody confirm this for me? Due to the uncertainty with Brexit I am saving as much as I can. I would be irresponsible not to. Thank you.
