Work

Hi all, I’ve found myself in the frustrating position of having adjustments at work promised and now have been told that is isn’t possible. I’m a teacher and it was agreed that from September I would have one day of non teaching time. I was so relieved and looking forward to managing and enjoying work again. But after wanting to conforming arrangements I’ve been told this isn’t feasible. I have to have a meeting next month about this and I want to be prepared. I will be in contact with my union but sources of info anyone could recommend or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Xxx

@petal87 , this can be frustrating when you get let down like this. Reasonable adjustments are written into law in the Equality Act 2010. However, the term, "reasonable" is somewhat subjective. Contacting your Union is a good first move, but also contact your school's Occupational Health representative.

Hello @petal87, sorry that you’ve had this disappointment. I can see how - from a management perspective - this arrangement might be difficult, if it concerns timetabling. For example, if you teach a certain subject, it would be difficult to compile a whole school timetable around one person. Also, if all your non-contact time was built into one day, that would effectively mean you wouldn’t get enough respite during the rest of the week and as we know, us MSers need our regular spots of rest! Perhaps they might try to suggest that you actually cut back on your days? I think your biggest source of help and support would be your union, they will be right behind you on this one. Also, have you requested an Occupational Health Assessment? When your one day was agreed, do you have that in writing? I hope you can sort this out favourably, please let us know how you get on x
