Tecfidera

I started Tecfidera at the end of June as I have had 2 relapses this last year. I have tried a few of the injections in the past but have had side effects. After being on Tecfidera for 3 weeks I started feeling unwell with sickness diahorrea sweating and really bad fatigue, I litterly had no energy at all. I did question the effects with the nurse who said I must have a viral infection because the medication doesn't cause fatigue. She suggested stopping medication till my body has faught off the infection. After a few days I was feeling a lot better. After a 10 days I restarted tablets and within a day or 2 the problems restarted again so I immediately stopped again. This seems rather a coincidence that I'd have another viral infection just as I start the tablets again. So at the minute I'm on any treatment until they can give me an alternative to consider

I use to get diarreha when I first started taking Tec. taking a probiotic in the morning really helped with that. I would have a bout of if once a week, I think it lasted for over a month. My doctor told me that was common with people starting Tec. Diarreha always makes me feel sweaty and fatigued so I don't know if this has anything to do with the Tec. For some strange reason I had to stay away from spicy foods and beans for awhile. I hung in there and and have been on it for three years now, no problems at all. I still take my pill in the middle of a meal and the probiotic. Tecfidera may not work for you, everyone is different. You need to start researching the DMT's yourself so you can have some imput as to what they are suggesting. Potter

I think you're right I need to look at the options. Thought taking the tablet would be the answer but for me I had more side effects than the injections. I was told the side effects for Tec could last 6- 8 weeks, there's no way I'd be able to work in the state I was in or that I'd be able to take that amount of time off work unfortunately. Kas67
