Income Protection

Can anyone advise who they have income protection with? I was advised when buying a house that very few insurers will cover anyone with MS so only went for life insurance but I have just ended up in hospital for a week for something entirely unrelated and now face only getting SSP for the next two weeks which I am signed off for, which is nowhere near what I need for outgoings. It seems to me that excluding someone from insurance based on one disease, when they may well still get other unrelated issues, is actually a form of discrimination? I understand pre-existing ms issues may not be covered but we should still be entitled to the same protections as non-msers for things like gallstones or cancer which are likely unrelated to our conditions? It would be great to hear other people's thoughts on this and if anyone specifically has expertise in terms of the legality around exclusion.

In my experience Income Protection doesn't kick in after 2 weeks. I had to be off 6 months before I could get IP. Normally most employers pay your salary for 3 to 6mths and then half pay . I suppose it depends on your employer. Mine is an employee benefit.

Sorry to hear about you having the hospital experience. That's completely different to MS I really wish I had the answer but I think you might have to go through citizens advice bureau? I'm unsure about that. Sorry!
