Bowel issues & blood
Hi all,
I hope people are well, it's been aaaaaages since I've been on here. :-)
This one is not very pleasant, so if you're eating your breakfast then you might wanna keep scrolling! :-D
I've had constipation and associated hemmoroids for a while now so I got used to that. In the last year though, I've had an increase in the amount of blood. At times that scared me but again, I kinda got used to it.
In the last two months, I had a random chest infection and a bout of diarrhoah neither of which have fully recovered. I've done self care for stomach stuff, but hadn't until just now asked Mr Google about relations between MS and blood in stool.
Apparently fecal impaction is a thing, so I'm reading up on that. Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with something like this?? Sometimes the amount of blood REALLY scares me, so I'm eager to hear if anyone here has experienced or is experiencing something similar.
I'd really appreciate some feedback, thanks everyone.
Have you seen your GP or primary care practitioner (sorry, I don't know the health system in Greece!). I don't think you should assume this is MS-related. It might be (and probably is) bleeding from haemorrhoids that have gotten worse, or possibly you've developed an anal fissure. In that case you need stool softeners and possibly a minor surgical procedure - banding of the piles / closure of fissure. The less likely possibility - but still something that has to be excluded unfortunately with a change in bowel habit and bleeding - is cancer. If your GP is unconvinced its just haemorrhoids, they will likely ask for a stool sample and might refer you for a colonoscopy just to be sure. I think you need more help/advice than shift.ms can give you in this which is why I think you should seek local medical help. Certainly upping your fluid (water) intake as much as you can couldn't hurt with the constipation.
Thanks for your response @mellowmedusa . Yes, the healthcare is complicated to say the least since I've moved here. When I went earlier in the week, the lady was very dismissive so thought I'd put it out here for now. I reckon I'll go back or to another place very soon. I'll read up on fissures in the meantime. Thanks again for the advice.
