Weight Loss

Hi All, since having my first MS symptom 4 years ago, I have slowly lost weight. I now have to eat a lot of food to gain weight, and no matter what, don’t seem to get above 12 Stone (apart from during the school holidays - I’m a teacher). I went to the doctor who said all my bloods are fine, thyroid good etc, so no issues there. She thinks it might be that my lifestyle is so healthy, and I rarely drink now, unlike 4years ago, hence the weight loss. I hate having to eat so much to maintain weight for a number of reasons. Anyone else ha e a similar issue? Best wishes, Ollie

Thanks @nutshell88 - this sounds very similar. I’m avoiding the weight gain drinks as I don’t think they’re very healthy. Does MS therefore change metabolism in some people I wonder? Could it be anxiety having an impact? I wonder if there are any wats to slow metabolism?

Hi @ ollie123, I lost 2 stone a few years ago and I haven’t been able to put it in again. I went and got all the medical tests to see what was causing this and nothing showed up. A friend on here thought I might have SIBO which is a bacterial infection in my small intestine. I got tested for this and the tests showed I have this. I went to a Nutritionist in June and she put me in a high fat diet (good fats), high protein and low carb diet. My appetite has improved a lot and I am not losing any more weight. I have not put on any either. She has put me on supplements recently to help as the infection is not gone yet. It takes a long time to get rid of it. If you have any questions about it please let me know. Ann Marie
