Irish question: Can you get referred for private MRI by HSE?

Sorry wasn't sure how to phrase the title to get the most attention from people who might have experience! I'm currently being treated by the HSE for MS - though I have cover for private scans by my work's health insurance. As I've never had a spine MRI and I'm due a brain one soon (but no one knows when that would be) can I just ask my neurologist to refer me to Affidea or similar? Or does it have to be done by the "official" MRI centre for that hospital? Thanks in advance if anyone knows, this is all so confusing!

Hi I'm in a similar situation Had a MRI privately ordered by a ophthalmic surgeon who sent on results to my neurologist. Recently had a head and spine one done on the public system who then sent it to my ophthalmic surgeon once i gave permission Neurologist mentioned its difficult to compare as MRI machines are different 🙄 Hope this helps

@MrBump thank you so much! Though it's pretty much the answer I was expecting as it does seem to be the HSE way (not that I'm not insanely grateful to them for their help!). I just want to get a baseline for the spine so it's easier to see if there's changes in the future!
