Unions

Hi all, I just wondered if any of you that work are part of a Union, and if so if it had really made a difference. I don’t feel I have much support at all at my place of work and every time I raise something I’m just making a fuss or accused of being self centred.

Hi - sorry to hear that. I have a union - and had to use them when put under pressure due to Disability. Mine is Teaching but I thought that all should have Policies and Pricedures they have to follow.? Maybe not. Also I remember contacting Disability Action - do you have such a thing where you are? I hope this helps - Good luck.

In my experience unions are a waste of time… I have worked as a nurse for 20 years and was advised that I must have a union … I paid my fees feeling confident that I was in a union. When I did need them in a previous nhs nursing job I’d done for 8 years - It took months for them to get in touch, They didn’t seem that bothered… they didn’t do anything I couldn’t do myself really…. I wouldn’t recommend having a union personally but the funny thing is, they noticed immediately and were straight on the phone when I cancelled my direct debit and stopped my monthly payments. I left my job in the end. The only thing I am grateful to my union rep for is that he reminded me that I ‘was just a number’ and ‘to do what was right for me’. He was right xx
