Flying and ms

Just been abroad for the second time and I have to say flying is a big issue for me. I go dizzy when taking off and when the plane changes altitude and also when turning, I'm talking hamster in a ball and been kicked kind of dizzy it's horrible and I have to close my eyes and take deep breathes and wait for it to pass so as you can imagine I start to stress about it which probably makes me worse. Just wanted to know if anyone else suffers with this and if it is ms related or something else and if it can be treated. Thanks

@dawnpxx , it sounds like it could be some form of vertigo. There's some info here regarding this MS symptom :- https://www.mstrust.org.uk/a-z/dizziness-vertigo However, there may be a non-MS cause, so it might be worth raising the issue with your GP.

@cameron

An interesting one. MS or another cause? I have problems flying long distance and in fact can't do it unless I go Business Class where I can lie absolutely flat. (I don't have the problem in a car or train). More than 8 hours sitting in a plane brings on horrible motor symptoms - pain, cramps and weakness which can last for weeks. I wondered at the time if it was the result of the lowered oxygen level in the cabin, but the neuro disagreed. He told me the cause is that flying puts a huge strain on a musculo-skeletal system that is coping with MS. I'm wondering if this could be the issue in your case and presents as vertigo? xx
