The intimacy of the Lumbar Puncture

I went to see Bright Places yesterday, and of course there's a scene with the confirmation LP at Dx. (I can't believe their docs were making This Is Spinal Tap jokes she didn't get, when for me it was the other way round) And she gets this Hot AF Irish Junior Doctor. (I'm picturing mid-2010s Jamie Dornan)and gets a bit of a crush, what with the intimacy of the procedure. I do remember feeling the same thing Viz my own LP Doc at the time. I think it's typically at a time where you're in a vulnerable place emotionally, and someone in a uniform sticks a spike in your back so tenderly as to leave you as unaffected by it as possible. It's kinda intense for everyone, right? The implicit power dynamics, the extreme care, the actual penetration of the skin... That's laying on the kink bait here. And I'd never have fessed up to that if it wasn't for the play. So..is it just me? (And Rae?)

Never had a LP, but watched my wife have an epidural. It is it not a tender or delicate process at all. Watching a plastic tube being forced into her spine, and then fed down the spinal column was unnerving..
