PIP

Hi, just after some advice. I applied for PIP but have been declined. Has anyone ever appealed this? I am wondering if to bother appealing if it's too stressful. I don't have any disability aids for assistance and not sure if I'd be wasting my time. My patience is already low at the minute haha. I was only diagnosed in May after having Optic Neuritis

Hi Laura, Sorry to hear you were declined for PIP. Can I ask, is ON the only 'relapse' you have had? Have you had MRI showing lesions anywhere else in your brain and spine? You *might* have been declined because you didn't meet the 3 month criteria - ie the difficulties/condition needs to be present for more than 3 months, and expected to be present for at least the next 9 months. I'm just guessing, obviously not knowing how you answered the questions on the form or whether you had any help with it. You don't need to have aids to qualify for PIP, but you do need to be able to show that you have functional limitations in the 10 daily living sections and/or the 2 mobility sections. If you don't want to appeal, you could consider making a fresh claim instead. Happy to help if I can .... have helped a number of people in the past although still plucking up the guts to claim for myself (so much harder to answer questions about yourself!)

I just posted about this recently but reach out to Mind. They were invaluable during the appeals process for me all the way to Tribunal and after, making sure I was getting what I was supposed to and sign posting me to other things I should apply for.
