'You'll just get in the way'

What can you do? These were statements from my wife, and I know she didn't mean it like they came out, she apologised afterward but it just really hit home with me. I still love her, she still loves me, its just that its one of the things I say to myself when I'm in one of my negative self depricating modes. I'm not even sure why I'm posting this here, to share I guess. I'm feeling better now, but I thought it might help someone feel less alone. That's all I really want, to make a positive difference to someone, to mean something, anything.

The emotional turmoil that is associated with MS isn't just the province of the person who has the condition. It can be emotionally draining on our nearest and dearest too, who see us struggle. They want to help us, but don't want to patronise. Sometimes the boundaries between the two get muddied. It's happened, feel sorry for yourself, then pick yourself up and move on. Make sure you give her a cuddle tonight.

Yes Gav there is nothing worse than feeling useless especially when all you want to do is help. I am afraid it is very difficult to deal with but at least you are not alone I know exactly how you feel and so do a lot of people here on this site. Sometimes you may not even realise that you have helped someone do you know the film "it's a wonderful life" Starring James Stuart? It's a wonderful film well worth watching to make you see how much worse off everyone would be if you were not in the world. There's lots of people in the world who are not very useful who have no excuse whatever. You are making a great effort despite all your setbacks and you mean something to lots of people. :-) Chin up! !
