Steroids

I'll be starting a 5 day course of methylprednisolone (500 mg per day) tomorrow and was wondering if it'll cause any weight gain? Has anyone experienced any issues in regards to this?
@Stumbler

Weight gain is listed as a possible side-effect, along with a raft of other things. Unfortunately, political correctness means that everything has to be listed. But, just be aware of the possibility. Other than that, be prepared for an immediate high, followed by the "steroid crash", all within the first few days. The body needs to handle what is a very high dosage of this steroid. The steroids themselves will be working for you over the course of the next 6-8 weeks, helping your body to recover. They really just give your recovery a kick-start. So, be patient. Good luck.

Hi @Chate I found the opposite I lost weight, well a lot of what I thought was weight gain but was actually accumulated fluid around my abdomen, face and legs, just disappeared in a couple of days. The only really negative side affect I had was a really horrible break out of cystic acne which did go away when I was prescribed Dalacin lotion. I felt a bit hyper for a day or so but then I felt great I could go to the loo without problems! and it was amazing to be pain and symptom free. It indicated to me how much MS had affected me, for instance my itching stopped and I had always put that down to having sensitive skin but then found it was the MS all along. Unfortunately for me this was short lived because I came down with a urinary tract infection (which was probably there before I took the steroids) and as I said in the other post this negated the longer term benefits. So within a few days I was back to how I was before, :( how I would have been without the UTI I don't know but, I do know that for a short time I felt absolutely marvelous. I really hope it works for you please let us know how you get on? x
