Random question about steroids
Hi, I was just wondering how you decide when to take steroids.
I have RRMS and am on tecfidera, due to change to Kesimpta in August.
For the most part my MS has been stable and more of a label than anything else.
However last week I woke up with a lightly numb face, over the week I have regained feeling on one side. MS team say I can have steroids if I would like but I haven’t had a chance to speak to them to ask any questions ( just read an electronic letter they sent). I do feel like this is quite mild on the whole scale of MS but as I haven’t had steroids since 2017 do I just take them or do people have reasons for not taking them until they are desperate?
Also, does anyone if the steroids give you protection afterwards for a certain amount of time?
I’m sure stress is my biggest trigger and in 2017 I went through the most stressful period of my life but didn’t relapse and I am wondering if that was because I had the steroids 2 months beforehand, just curious to see other people’s thoughts!
Steroids and me don’t mix. They actually made me ill mental health wise and then I was diagnosed with osteoporosis so I certainly wasn’t allowed them after that but I did in the beginning because I wanted my normality back sooner rather than going the long route
I only turn to steroid or thc treatment when I’m completely floored by a relapse/flare-up. 🥊 When I can hardly get up without assistance and every step is a struggle. Just the thought of steroid affecting bone density and causing osteoporosis is enough to deter me from turning to it frequently. 🦴
