SALT - what to expect?

i’ve been referred to a speech & language therapist due to new issues with swallowing food. sometimes when i swallow the food goes up my nose, other times it goes down the wrong hole and i end up having a coughing fit. same thing happens with drinks. pasta’s been the worst, it’s like it has a vendetta against me 😅 in a week i’ll have my first appointment with the speech and language therapist and a community MS nurse. they’re coming out to my house rather than seeing me in a clinic, which has confused me cuz i was expecting a scan or smth to see what happens when i swallow? or are those scans quite portable? i just don’t know what to expect and i’m quite stressed about it
@RC83

The only scan I can think of that could be used to monitor a movement that is complete in 1-2 seconds is an Ultrasound. If that is the case then yes they are portable.

They assess you swallowing, assess what you’re having difficulties with, fluids or hard types of foods. They try to reduce the risk of aspiration, as this can lead to chest infections or pneumonia.
