Insurance woes
So this is an offload really but thought I’d share and if anyone has similar experiences insured or not.
Before I was diagnosed I was in the process of applying for life insurance and critical illness cover. It felt the right time as I have a mortgage and at the time a son on route to the world. In a build up of stress I had my first attack and got double vision/ diplopia and then underwent investigation. I had to declare this and then my insurance adviser said we have to wait for the results. I was gutted I didn’t get the policy underway before that because I could have had a nice pay out of critical illness. Oh well life goes on. I was told I have to wait a year in to diagnosis and have no changes in order to be insured for life insurance. I’m now in a position to apply again as I’ve had a good year but it’ll go up by 50% in premiums because of the MS.
I did get income protection when I went freelance in 2019 but I had to declare a bout of anxiety and also a cyst I had on my back that needed surgery. When I got diagnosed with MS I was relieved that I at least had the income protection to fall back on. I’ve just ready my policy documents and the exclusion for the cyst on my back is an exclusion for any disease related to the spine or any neurological conditions. I cannot believe my luck.
At least I have a pension and I’m in good health for now. Take one day at a time and make hay while the sun shines!
Anyone else have success stories with critical illness or woes to share? Or any advice on my situation would be helpful. Thanks
