Optic neuritis

Hey I am needing a bit of advice I had ON in Oct and I have started with a sore eye again been getting worse the last few days ..... is this more likely for me to get it again in the same eye ? Dr said to rest, been extremely fatigued again and in a lot of pain in my hips and legs which has been constant. Any advice please ?

@niteowl Hi In short yes... have you been given your DX yet? I know you've been waiting a while. I agree with your GP rest up and keep yourself cool 🥶 Your GP can provide meds for your pain with spastcity (stiffness) and meds for the burning nerves feeling. But rest up...it helps.😀

Hi Highlander back to see neuro next month, on gabapentin high dose for nerve pain ..... been feeling crap lately eye is bugging me just so worried it’s happening again 😬 just been plodding on ....

Highlander

@Highlander

@niteowl Anything else like Baclofen for the spastcity? Gentle stretching exercises helps too. But a proper rest and I mean proper rest goes a long way. No running around for others, get them to do it 😃

@niteowl , you also need to try and "switch off" your brain. Watch some mind-numbing box-sets, which don't require too much thinking.........

Highlander

@Highlander

@niteowl Just wondering....did your GP give you a sick chit?

I had it in one Eye then the other. That was 1993 before I was even diagnosed. I have not (knock on wood) had it since. I do however have sore eyes and get scared it’s coming back. The neurologist suggested moisturizing eye drops. She said sometimes our eyes hurt because they are dry and tired. As for the hip pain I get that too. I use a cannibas cream. Omg that works wonders! You can try Salonpas patches. They help somewhat. I also like Gabipentin as it helps too. Hope you feel better! 🙂

Highlander

@Highlander

@niteowl That's not your problem...... that's their job to sort out, that's what thier payed to do. Don't worry about them, their not worried about you. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Stumbler

@Stumbler

@niteowl , if it was a hangover, then feel guilty. But, this isn't self-inflicted. You haven't asked for this. So, chill out and allow yourself to recover.

niteowl

@niteowl

@highlander @stumbler it’s added more stress to me as well spent last nite and this afternoon with an eye patch on as it’s sore ..... I don’t need people to know my business and refuse to go into work in a public place like this ...... people would ask what I have done, same with my leg poor horse got the blame for that. Just feel so frustrated with their attitude. Yes @stumbler it that’s what I need to do watched Netflix last nite with one eye in the dark felt like a vampire 🧛‍♀️

Stumbler

@Stumbler

@niteowl , that kind of reaction is grounds for constructive dismissal and you would have case for unfair dismissal. If you're member of a Union, then they would advise. However, that may not be the way to go. These legal cases are never that black and white. A more diplomatic way forward would be to have an informal chat with your HR department (if you have one) and ask them to brief your bosses on the Equality Law 2010, which gives you protection from this kind of behaviour. I would favour the latter option as being the least stressful way forward, which would see your employment continue. this is rather than getting involved with protracted situations within the legal system and trying to find a new job.

niteowl

@niteowl

It certainly isn’t the reaction I needed I got a friend to follow up with sick line after my phone call this morn. I have just moved house and they wanted to know my new address what for ? Are they sending me a letter about my health ...... my pal just said I don’t know the full address. Jesus I just want time to recover and that’s not even a day ......

Stumbler

@Stumbler

@niteowl , employers need a home address for a variety of reasons, so don't get over-suspicious. Employers also owe a duty of care to their employees, so if some were to visit you, it might just be to see how you are. My boss visited me during a period of absence, to see if there was anything he could help with, offering me equipment to be able to work from home, if I wanted. Employers try to cut down on casual sickness. You know, the habitual Friday or Monday absentees, making the weekends longer or recovering from the hangovers. You have a genuine condition and you are protected from any bullying by law. So don't be so paranoid about their intentions

niteowl

@niteowl

Thanks @stumbler guess I just find it off as I moved 3 weeks ago and it is only now they asked for my new address. Times like this I miss being self employed as you don’t have issues like this

niteowl

@niteowl

Hey guys an update as suspected the dreaded letter from work is to discuss my health ..... it was written the day I handed in the sick line and they’re expecting me to attend a meeting with them on 10th July ...... am having a relapse and this while sitting is making me more stressed out

Stumbler

@Stumbler

@niteowl , consider it as the employer's duty of care to its staff. Nothing more sinister than that. As I said, you're not a casual shirker. You have a condition that is recognised under the Equality Act 2010. If you're not up to getting into work, then offer to see them at home.

I had ON last year and was treated with IV steroids. A month later, I had it again in the same eye Some places refused me and told me nothing was wrong, but once I found a team of specialists that would actually help, I knew exactly where to go when I got it the second time. As soon as I’d had enough of my eye hurting I let them know and they saw me straight away and treated me again. I’m glad I didn’t leave it too long before seeking help Meg xoxo
