Experiences with private diagnosis and referral back to NHS?
Wondering if anyone in the UK can share their experiences of being diagnosed privately. What was the process like and how quickly did you start treatment with the NHS after diagnosis?
I have booked a consultation with Nuffield today, I reached breaking point after being told I would have to wait at least another 8 months to see Neuro (I’ve already been waiting 4). I’ve had symptoms for well over a year, numbness and tingling, limb weakness, dysautonomia, altered sensations like running water/things crawling on my skin, double vision in one eye, bladder and bowel issues, the list goes on…
Would be so helpful if anyone can tell me what the process was like (particularly how long you had to wait for treatment once diagnosed) thanks so much 😊🫶🏼

I was diagnosed privately, after a consult and MRI. The private consultant advised on the best local neurology department and wrote to my GP asking that they refer me. Lumber puncture and further MRI via NHS confirmed diagnosis. Very smooth process and the care provided by the NHS has been excellent and timely. It may well of helped, that the private consultant had trained under the NHS clinical lead. It is a very small world!
@jocasta65 thank you so much for your comment, sending you well wishes - and wow it’s a very small world indeed!!
