Going to music festivals
Hi, I’ve recently being diagnosed with RRMS. This was after one lesion found on my lower spine and several in the brain. my only symptom atm is numbness/pins and needles sensation on one half of the sole of my right foot (which I can feel when touched)
I’m 28 and very active. Its strange being diagnosed with MS as I feel completely fine apart from the foot which doesent bother me but I’m constantly worried something bad is soon going to happen. I am going on Ofatumumab soon.
Sorry for the long winded question, but one of my favourite thing to do is go to music festivals and had many planned for this summer (Glastonbury etc) is it still okay to go to all these festivals as I feel fine now? Or could they trigger something worse to happen.. I want to carry on playing sport and living life as normal but don’t want to make my symptoms worse by doing so. Thank you!
Hi @lindsay96 welcome. I think if you feel physically able to attend a music festival, then you should be fine going. I’m not much of a camper so an iTunes festival evening is where I went to before. Glastonbury maybe I could try if I was glamping and allocated in a stage disabled section but, the fatigue would spoil everything for me — if I cannot get there under my own steam then I’d rather not go imho. 🚂 Enjoy your summer of festivals. 🎶
Hi @lindsay96 👋 I was diagnosed when I was a little older than you (30) and very much had a similar love of music festivals/shows/concerts/gigs in dirty little bars & pubs etc etc haha I still went and did anything and everything I wanted! I still go to a few shows now, but at 37 festivals are absolutely no longer my jam. Everyone has such a different experience with MS. Some people, even early in their journey like you, wouldn't physically be able to make it through a festival. Others are 10, 20, 30 years into their MS journey and running marathons! You start to kinda learn your own limits over time, but while you feel good and want to keep doing all the things you love then do it! Obviously going onto a DMT that depletes your b-cells is something to take into consideration but that's also another area people have very different experiences. Some people get sick more often, so be aware of that. But some people (like me) don't really notice any difference.
