New to the world of MS
After 2 weeks of numbness from the waist down and trouble walking I am only 52 so unexpected. Had an mri this weekend confirmed ms, on some sort of daily steroid now on a 30min iv. Can anyone cast any light on what the future holds, I work for my self so no sick pay no to little pension will I be ok to work in the future, have an 11 year old son, so scared he will find out, it’s been hard hiding it for the last two weeks. Don’t know what it’s going to look like going forward. Any newbies going through similar and advice from anyone.

The question of whether you can work in the future cannot be answered by anybody. However when you look at what the future holds compared to a generation before us in my opinion it is spectacular because we have all these modern drugs. Most people have relapsing Ms and if you're one of them you could well lead a near normal life if you get onto a good drug as soon as possible.
Unfortunately MS is really unpredictable but saying that, it could be that you have the relapsing remitting form & therefore this is just a flare up & you will recover, at least temporarily. My advice would be to speak to your MS consultant and nurse - they are a mine of information & will be able to relate it to your individual situation. I have had MS for over 35 years and was able to work in a high pressure job, full time until about 10 years ago. I think it would be a good idea to talk to your son & tell him about it - he will know there is something happening & will be imagining all sorts. Better to tell him & be able to support him. Don't be scared to ask questions of your MS team - there are so many treatments available now (they weren't any when I was diagnosed). You can also ask anything on here - people are very knowledgeable & helpful. All the best
