MS, Perimenopause, and HRT
Hi, everyone.
I was wondering if those of you with RRMS who are still experiencing periods of sorts and are currently using (or have tried) HRT wouldn’t mind sharing your experiences, positive or negative, in terms of the impact it has had on you, your lifestyle, and in particular your MS.
With the lovely brain fog, memory issues and mood swings that already come with MS, perimenopause seems to be intensifying these things.
Did those of you who have always enjoyed being active and eating healthy find yourself suddenly gaining mystery weight around the waist and stomach area that was difficult to shed, and did HRT help with getting back to your normal weight/figure?
Has HRT improved things for you with regards to intimacy and quality of life in that aspect, i.e, did things ‘work properly’ again?
I know ‘the change’ can be a difficult subject to talk about, so if anyone would prefer to talk about their journey with HRT privately, my inbox is open.
Hiya! I'm currently taking tibolone as I'm going through menopause! I found the hardest part was trying to regulate my body temperature. The tablets did help with that but I also had to find other things to help like a cooling pillow and blanket😂 I was dropping weight weekly due to fatigue and not having much of an appetite but since being in menopause I have racked up a fair bit of weight without my appetite changing! This might not be very helpful as my menopause is caused by zoladex injection that shuts down your ovaries (I suffer with endometriosis as well and am waiting for a partial hysterectomy)
Yes I'm on HRT and it's had no effect on my ms at all. I'm glad I'm on it as the hot flushes were awful. I've gone through perimenopause apparently. I take 2 Utrogestan tablets for 2 weeks then 2 weeks off along with a gel I rub in twice a day. It's made a big difference. The only time it played my ms up is when I didn't take anything.
