Waiting for MRI

Hi all. I've not been diagnosed yet but I'm still waiting for an MRI. I was referred by my GP about 8 weeks ago. I've had symptoms that have lasted 3-4 weeks each time, on about 3 occasions over the past 18 months. I get facial tingling, also numbness and pain in my right arm and leg with muscle twitching, and on the last episode it also affected my right foot and leg. I've also been "tripping" whilst walking up and down the office at work. I also get very tired and I've started suffering with constipation followed by bouts of really bad diarrhoea. Has anyone else had these sorts of symptoms, or is this very unusual? Thank y.

What you're experiencing certainly sounds like symptoms that can be seen in MS, especially when they're coming and going over time and affecting different parts of the body. The MRI, along with blood tests and sometimes a lumbar puncture, should help the neurologist work out what's going on. The waiting for diagnosis can feel like it takes forever. I remember that part being one of the hardest bits because you're stuck in limbo looking for answers. Gut issues, fatigue, numbness, tingling, muscle twitching and tripping over your own feet are all things many people with MS report, although they can occur in other conditions too, which is why the tests are important. While you're waiting, it might be worth spending some time learning about modern MS treatments (DMTs). If it does turn out to be MS, treatment options in 2026 are far better than they were years ago, and many people continue working, raising families and living active lives. Wishing you the best with the MRI. Hopefully you get some answers soon. 💙
