That's going to depend on the rest of the clinical picture. They'll want an Lumbar Puncture to confirm, and in my case a PET scan to rule out other stuff... The MS Trust has loads of personal stories and a couple podcasts about people's paths to diagnosis. It's as varied as MS itself, unsurprisingly.
About a week after my MRI my ophthalmologist gave me a soft diagnosis because of all the lesions she saw in my brain scan. I was officially diagnosed a month and a half later after additional scans, lumbar puncture, and numerous blood tests.
