Phantom smells? Anyone else experiencing issues with smells?
I’ve been having this weird issue with my sense of smell. Anytime I’m around a strong smell, like coffee or cooking, it seems to trigger this cigarette/smoky smell in my nose that I get stuck with for the rest of the day.
Most of the time it doesn’t go away until the next day, and sometimes it can last up to 48 hours. It’s horrible because once it’s triggered, literally every inhale has this strong cigarette/smoke smell.
Does anyone else with MS experience anything like this? If so, have you figured out anything that helps or how to make it go away faster?
I’ve mentioned it to my neuro, but he kind of brushes it off. It can be really annoying and frustrating, so I’m curious if anyone else with MS deals with this ?

Sadly yes and it is a common MS symptom, depending on where the damage 'upstairs' is. Sadly the only thing I have found that helps, me at least, is another smell as equally strong but tolerable/pleasant.
@WPerrotto ok so I’m not crazy. Sorry you have this issue too. I have noticed other smells help but only temporarily. What exactly helps you and does it take it away or just temporarily as well?
