CIS, Lumbar Puncture and next actions….
Hi All.
I hope everyone is holding up well
I have been under a neurologist since June last year as I had one single lesion in my spinal cord at the C2/C3. This is now showing as healed but as a shadow on MRI.
My lumbar puncture came back with Oligoclonal band detected in both CSF and serum with additional band in CSF.
My CSF IgG index was elevated to 1.7 (normal <0.7)
As I have no other lesions, the neurologist has stated that my current diagnosis is “cervical myelitis” which surprised me, as it was apparent from our last conversation the diagnosis would be CIS. All other possibilities such as Sarcoidois, inflammation of blood vessels and cancer have all been ruled out.
I’m no expert, but my lumbar results appear to indicate there is ongoing inflammation in my CNS…
I’ve also had pseudo flare ups during a bad tooth infection that led to swallowing difficulties, voice changes and choking episodes that lasted around 6 weeks. These were all new symptoms, ones that I certainly didn’t have during my first attack in June last year.
I’m due to see my neurologist for a follow up in 2 weeks time. Initially when we discussed a CIS outcome, he did mention he would potentially look at copaxone as a preventative. But now he’s mentioned cervical myelitis, despite no additional tests and changes in imaging since out last conversation, I have a feeling he’s going to put me on a watch and wait.
Has anyone any advice on how I can prepare myself? What questions should I be asking?
Thanks in advance x
