HELP!! Looking for advice/opinions.
So I was diagnosed with MS 2023. I had my first consultation with the Neuro today after 2yrs (I know very long time). I had 2 relapses in 2023 (pins/needles & numbness in 2 different areas). But I have had no relapses ever since then. Just on and off fatigue.
I am otherwise very well & fit in myself. I eat well, take care of myself, work & gym regularly. I am 28. But my neuro was advising the sooner I take medication the better for me “incase of a relapse” although I’ve had none for 2yrs. They refused to do an updated MRI scan so don’t know if anything has progressed. They are just focusing on my MRI from 2023 but told me my immune system will be comprised when taking these medications.
My immune system at the moment has been the strongest it’s ever been. Would I be benefitting myself taking medication or making it worse?
Should I demand an updated MRI? How long have you gone without a relapse? Do you find yourself better or see any improvements since taking medication?
I feel more confused than I did before my consultation.
Thank you 🫶🏼
In the same order as your questions: - I personally wouldn't. - 3yrs un-drugged, 8yrs drugged. - No but I hate to think how bad I would be now had I not have taken it. You make a positive statement - you have had no relapses since 2023. I'd imagine your neurologist wishes to keep it that way by using the NHS budget to offer you the drugs your entitled too as opposed to a scan, after no change in symptoms, which could be instead given to someone going through diagnosis stage.
I was diagnosed in 1995 and was in denial for a long time. Fast forward 2009 I was working in a hospital as a technologist and noticed I was walking to one side. To make a long story short I went to a neurologist and had a MRI. The results were many more lesions without a relapse in my brain. My advice to you is go on a DMT if you want to have quality of life.
