Understanding symptoms
Hi - my husband was diagnosed with MS last year so we are still trying to understand triggers or when to call / not to call the doctor.
We have recently had a baby so exhaustion could be a contributing factor or maybe the heat?! but he hasn’t had the strength to hold her and is presenting like he can’t walk properly plus lower back pain. In everyone’s experience is this something that happens and will pass or something we should be getting checked out?
If a new symptom presents for longer than 48 hours, contact your MS nurse. Have the things you are describing been present since diagnose? Definitely get a physio and OT for some guidance and help with the back pain and best ways to safely hold the baby. This should always be possible in some ways. Maybe he can sit with legs outstretched, a sturdy pillow in between with baby on it and rock side to side for example (get an OT to show you). Heat and exhaustion are both possible triggers. Diet is very important as well. Avoid processed foods as much as possible and eat plenty of omega 3 and take vitamin D3 supplements (consult MS team)
Definitely get it checked out. The heat & exhaustion will without doubt have exacerbated a MS relapse. Great advice from sango above! All the best & hope it settles soon.
