Stress and symptoms

I’m newly diagnosed so I’m still learning. Question: If something stressful happens, it seems like I can get an almost immediate response with symptoms. Meaning my symptoms become much more noticeable almost immediately after something stressful happens. By immediate I mean 10-15 minutes. Is this common? Does anyone else experience this..?? Or am I losing my mind..?

Stress and conflict are well known to aggravate existing MS symptoms. For me, arguing is one of the biggest triggers. Years ago I worked in mobile phone sales and was basically a professional arguer. I genuinely enjoyed turning a "no" into a "yes". These days it's completely different. The slightest disagreement can leave me feeling wiped out and can make my symptoms flare up almost immediately. The best solution I've found is to avoid unnecessary conflict in the first place. Have a good marriage, choose your battles carefully, and focus your energy on the things that really matter. You're the architect of your own life, so try to build one with as little drama and conflict as possible. That said, life is unpredictable and sometimes brutal. We don't always get to choose what lands on our doorstep. As Mike Tyson famously said: "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face." You're definitely not losing your mind. Many of us notice symptoms become more obvious within minutes of stress kicking in. It doesn't necessarily mean new damage is happening. Often it's your nervous system already working near capacity, and stress is the thing that pushes it over the edge for a while.

You’re not losing your mind. It’s very common for stress to exacerbate symptoms. In some cases it can cause relapses so it’s best to try and reduce stress as best as possible. Easier said than done, I know 🤦🏻‍♀️
