Right, buckle up for this one… We’ve all heard the question: Who wins in a fight, 100 men or 1 gorilla? People have spent an alarming amount of time debating this. But I think we’ve made a fundamental mistake. Why are we sending 100 random men? Send 95 experienced zookeepers and 5 rodeo clowns. Now have another look at those odds. 95 people understand large dangerous animals. And 5 have somehow made a career out of being chased by one while dressed like they’ve lost custody of a circus. That’s a fucking team. And weirdly, that’s how I’ve started looking at MS. Sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees because you’re too busy staring at the enormous bastard gorilla standing in them. MS is strong. Fine. But I get to pick my 100. DMT to keep the gorilla contained. Exercise and physio to keep the machinery working. Pacing because apparently fighting a gorilla for 14 hours straight is considered “poor energy management.” Sleep and food because the troops require supplies. FES, rehab, routine, family, friends, humour, stubbornness... And obviously the 5 rodeo clowns. They’re mainly there for changing-room morale. I don’t know what they’re doing. Neither does the gorilla. That’s the point. You might not be able to get rid of the gorilla. But you can change the environment, change the tactics, build a better team and flip some of those odds back in your favour. Sometimes the answer isn’t becoming stronger than the gorilla. Sometimes you just need to become an administrative fucking nightmare for the gorilla. So, MS is the gorilla. Who are you putting in your 100? Serious answers welcome. Ridiculous answers preferred.
