🧠4 Weeks of Sleep + MS = What I Actually Learned
I’ve been tracking my sleep, HRV and “Body Battery” on Garmin for the last 4 weeks… and honestly, it’s been a bit of a reality check.
📊 The numbers (real talk):
Avg sleep score: 56
Avg overnight heart rate: 76 bpm
Avg resting HR: 67 bpm
Avg Body Battery recharge: +24
At first I thought, “yeah, not great… but I’m functioning.”
But when you zoom out, a pattern hits you.
🔍 What I DID
I kept showing up.
Gym ✔️
6-minute treadmill challenge ✔️
Life with kids, work, chaos ✔️
Even on low energy days… I still went.
📉 What I LEARNED (this is the big one)
My body isn’t failing me…
it’s just not fully recharging.
Most nights I’m only gaining ~24 Body Battery, which basically means:
I’m starting each day half-charged 🔋
And that explains:
why I hit a wall on the treadmill
why some days feel heavy for no reason
why motivation isn’t the issue… energy is
⚠️ What we can SEE from the data
It’s a cycle:
Push → partial recovery → push → crash → repeat
Some days my HRV is balanced (green)…
Other days it’s low/unbalanced (orange/red)
That’s not random.
That’s my nervous system saying:
“I’ll let you push… but you need to pay me back.”
🧩 What I NEED to do next
Not stop. Not quit.
Just get smarter.
🟢 Good recovery day? Push it
đźź Mid day? Maintain
🔴 Low day? Still show up… but scale it down
And most importantly: 👉 Focus on recharging better, not just training harder
Because right now:
I’m building effort on top of fatigue
💬 Why I’m sharing this
If you’ve got MS and feel like:
“Why am I so tired even when I try?”
“Why do some days just hit different?”
It might not be you.
It might be your battery never getting full.
⚡ My takeaway
You don’t need perfect days.
You need repeatable, realistic ones.
Even on a low battery… I still got my 6 minutes in.
And that still counts.
👇 Curious…
Does anyone else track this stuff?
What’s your “battery” like day to day?

I don’t track it but do my best to get 8 hours sleep a night. I have some time off in between jobs so im trying to recharge and train myself to nap in the day time! Very interesting. I’m definitely alert and energised after a good night sleep but by the end of the day I run out of steam.
@ruari Yeah that’s spot on 👏 Good sleep = energy early But if you’re not fully recharged, the tank empties fast by evening. That’s literally what I’m seeing in my data now.
