Speech & Language Therapy.
Got my first appointment 1st April. As had some issues around swallowing and coughing. Just wondered if anyone else has had this appointment and what to expect like do they put anything down your throat 🤣😂.
Thanks.

I had a fluoroscopy with SLT last year and they discovered I suffer from aspiration, fluids seem to go down my trachea and into my lungs, it probably explains the aspiration pneumonia I’ve experienced - 3 times in 9 months. 🫁
I’m an SLP in the states… usually here we will assess your swallow with foods/drinks at the clinic. We may order a Modified Barium Swallow study *MBSS* (basically a video X-ray) where we will watch you swallowing foods/drinks with barium to further assess your swallow. There is another form of the test that is involves placing a camera up the nose and down the throat, a FEES. Those additional tests have to be ordered as outpatient in the hospital (quick 5-10 min test) so I’d just expect to have a snack and answer questions at your first appointment
