Disclosing DIagnosis
Hello!
I am looking to apply for jobs after a year of being out of work. I am currently considering the pros and cons of disclosing my MS diagnosis to employers.
So far my thoughts are:
✓ It would make me feel more comfortable having someone in a managerial role know about my diagnosis
✓ My diagnosis shouldn’t be a big deal. Being open is a relief
✓ It will make it easier to ask for reasonable adjustments later on
✖ I know employers can’t discriminate but they could not hire me and say it is because of something else
✖ I don’t want to get an interview just because I have a disability, and not because they am impressed by application
✖ Once I tell them, I can’t take it back
I would really appreciate hearing your reasons for disclosing / not disclosing your diagnosis to your employer. I know it is my decision but I would still like to hear your thoughts.
Thank you!

I firmly believe in being open and honest about your ms. You can always spin the positive side of your capabilities as well. All the best.
As someone that hires many people i understand the struggle here. I feel that it should be ok to disclose your diagnosis, yes they could choose not to hire you and blame something else. My thought is, would you want to work for a company or employer that chooses to operate like that? Disclosing and then being hired by a company you will have more peace of mind knowing they will be there for you as things change.
