Kesimpta and yellow fever vaccine
Hello! I am wondering if any else has experience around this. Quick summary, I was diagnosed last year and only started treatment this week (the nhs lost my records 🙁so it was delayed). Before starting Kesimpta I asked about any vaccines I should get and was told nothing live, but I didn’t need any and could just take a month break from Kesimpta if I did need one. I had my first Kesimpta shot this week.
I’ve just been told that I cannot take a short break for a live vaccine, it would have to be a long break, 6-12 months. I did explain that I travel a lot when originally looking at treatments but was told anything can be worked in. My mistake for not understanding and asking specifically about the yellow fever vaccine.
My partner is from Peru and we have a huge 3 month trip planned to areas that have high risk of yellow fever. Nothing is booked so we are flexible. But in the next two years.
I don’t know what to do now. Is it too late to try and get the yellow fever vaccine now considering I have only had one shot? Just wondering if anyone has personal experience on this as it normally can take time for the pharmacist or neurologist to get back to me and I have my second Kesimpta does next Wednesday.
Thanks so much!
I had the yellow feaver vaccine many years ago and recall feeling really sick after. Personally I wouldn’t want to risk doing it wrong and would follow the doctors advice and delay if needed.
@messy100 thank you so much the response! Did you have the vaccine before you started treatment? Or was it during treatment?
